Cohons only started to make history in the 12th century, with a secular seigneury divided between the houses of Montsaugeon and Tilchâtel. Towards the end of the 12th century, Guy de Tilchâtel sold all his rights and possessions to the Langres Chapter, who in 1201 would give the Hôpital Saint-Laurent de Langres, newly founded on the recently acquired assets, to Cohons and Vaux-sous-Aubigny. Similarly, the descendants of the Montsaugeon house, lay people, Langres canons and Chapter elders alike made donations or had their anniversaries here, thus reinforcing the possessions of this Chapter in Cohons.
