The cutlery industry was introduced to Langres as far back as the 14th century, and rapidly acquired world fame.
In the 17th century, as a result of economical, political and socal events, Nogent became the cutlury centre, with a reputation still recognised today. The Nogent cutlury industry is still highly active and employs over 2 000 people. A wide range of metalwork is still produced ranging from knives and scissors to professional tools and luxury items.
Other activities have been developed such as forging and stamping, the manufacture of hand tools and more especially surgery instruments which are made to order. The originality of Nogent is to be able to mass produce using the most modern techniques while employing a highly skilled workforce with traditional know-how, capable of producing limited series.
After visiting the Espace Pelletier, a visit to numerous production workshops of the Nogent area is a must. Articles can be purchased from most work-shops.
